From UC Berkeley’s website, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is described as ” a counseling and academic support program designed to help low-income and first generation college students succeed in college. A student is first generation if neither parent went to college.”
When providing me information to write your EOP recommendation letters, please consider that the more I know about your financial background and family history, the better I can represent you.
To help guide you, the following questions were what I had to answer for applicants intending on entering their transfer university in Fall 2020.
- What qualities best describe this applicant?
- To your knowledge, does this applicant have a historically disadvantaged background (i.e., low income for several years, first-generation college student, inner-city or migrant family)? Why?
- Why do you believe this student qualifies for EOP, and what services or assistance would you recommend to help him/her to succeed in college?
- Please discuss any barriers to achievement the applicant has faced. Do you believe they will affect his/her performance in college?
- What is your assessment of the student’s potential, motivation, or capability for undertaking college work and potential to succeed in college?
