Related Experience

Outback Climbing Center Staff (June 2009 – Present)

Outback Adventures, La Jolla, CA
An unpaid position; volunteers are responsible for training new climbers on appropriate and safe techniques for both indoor and outdoor rock climbing. I am also responsible for managing gym rentals for special events and outreach programs designed for various ages (children to adults) and groups (at-risk youth, minority groups, current students, adults suffering from obesity).

Applications Engineer (July 2006 – July 2008)
Filmetrics, Inc., San Diego, CA
Filmetrics, Inc. provides optical measurement devices which function on the principles of thin-film interference of light. My primary responsibility was to test customer samples on our systems and adapt them to meet customer needs. I was also responsible for training customers and new employees on the use and implementation of systems; designing and running marketing campaigns including trade shows, advertisements, and mailers; supporting customers with technical problems; testing equipment and software; reading and synthesizing legal documents such as nondisclosure agreements; writing and filming educational training videos; and writing technical documents.

Student Researcher and Assistant (July 2003 – July 2006)
UC San Diego Statin Study, Department of Medicine, La Jolla, CA
Under the guidance of Dr. Beatrice Golomb, I created a web-based application designed to collect information from current users of statins, a class of cholesterol-lowering drugs. The application, in conjunction with double-blind clinical trials, was used to investigate the effects of statins on various populations. I also provided general research, administrative, and technical support.

Technical Sales Aide (April 2006 – June 2006)
Filmetrics, Inc., San Diego, CA
Filmetrics, Inc. provides optical measurement devices which function on the principles of thin-film interference of light. This position was a student position. I was in charge of redesigning the sales and purchasing database in order to fit company needs. I also created educational packages to be marketed and sold to universities, which included developing laboratory assignments and exercise questions to accompany the system.
